Hailing from the village of Strathfoyle, County Londonderry, Lowry first played soccer locally in the Derry and District League with Tristar Boys and Oxford United, before moving to the Ulster Senior League in County Donegal, where he played for Kildrum Tigers at youth level. Lowry returned to local soccer following his departure from Letterkenny to play for his local team, Lisahally and manager Christopher Whoriskey spoke of his excitement at securing the young prospect's signature. In 2008 Lowry helped Lisahally to their first cup success in many years by scoring crucial goals on their way to success.[1] Lowry's reputation among the regional football community was growing and Derry City scouts were seen at many Lisahally games. However, the only offer received by Lowry came from Drumahoe side, Institute and Lowry jumped at the chance, joining up with his fellow Strathfoyle man, David Ogilby. Lowry announced his arrival at Institute with an emphatic last gasp equaliser away to Linfield and has featured in the first team squad ever since, making several appearances.[2] On the 28th of November, in his debut start for Institute, against Crusaders, Lowry scored a brace to ensure Institute claimed a crucial three points.[3]
In December 2010, Conference North outfit Droylsden announced the signing of Lowry. He made his debut in a FA Trophy tie against Hinckley United, but was unable to get himself on the scoresheet and he was substituted on 36 minuites.[4]
